Directions by car
The Sailing club is located in the village of Hoveringham, which is North East Nottingham (past Burton Joyce and Lowdham).
Follow the A612 Southwell Road and take a right turn just before the village of Thurgaton onto Station road.
Follow the road over the railway track.
Just after Office Lake fisheries on your right, you will reach a giant sculpture of a mammoth at which point you will need to turn left into the cement works. (Creagh Concrete)
Drive through the cement works and you will see a gravel track to your right through a gate marked Notts County Sailing Club.
Follow this track until you reach the gate with a key pad – code will be provided on your confirmation email once the swim has been booked via the Actio app.
Once through the gate, follow the trach past the club house and there is parking on the right. Here you will see fellow swimmers heading towards the smaller lake, cabin and gazebo.
Parking information
There is free car parking onsite. You will need a gate code to enter/exit which will be sent in your confirmation email when you make a booking. Please ensure you follow the instructions for access / parking in the email and adhere to the 10mph speed limit.
Swimming experience needed
Those swimming outdoors for the first time at a venue of varying depth such of this one, should already have pool swimming experience including confidence in deep water. Our benchmark is the ability to swim 50m 2 lengths of a pool without stopping.
Accessibility of venue
The terrain of the carpark is gravel.
The entry to the lake is via a slip way so is a ‘walk in ‘ and gradual submersion.
If walking aids are required, they can be brought to the lake side and taken from you once you are in the water.
Facilities (including where you can get changed)
We suggest coming with your swim wear underneath your clothes.
There is a cabin in which to get changed and warm up after your swim. Please note this is a mixed gender facility.
Swimmers are permitted to use the toilets in the club house though these should not be used for changing. We have tea/coffee/hot chocolate and light snacks available for swimmers but please ensure you BYO mug. You can leave your belongings near the Love Open Water gazebo which will be manned by a member of staff during sessions. Please leave any valuable belongings at home as we cannot take responsibility for any items lost or stolen.
